The week in one paragraph

The Pulse Index gained +1.7% for the week, recovering from the lows of the prior week’s outage period. But this was a week defined more by what happened to the data than what happened to the market: our listing monitor went offline for four days (Jul 29–Aug 1), came back with a data revision that trimmed historical removal records as rediscovered listings were reversed, and then delivered a strong rebound day on Friday before quieting into the weekend. Breadth was 8 of 14 watches up, and the smoothed EWMA finished at 99.34 — below 100 for the first time in a few weeks. Trading pace averaged just 157 sales per day, well below the 185 baseline, as the outage gap compressed the average. The underlying market feels rangebound.

Liquidity read

Confirmed sales averaged just 157/day against the 185 baseline, but the shape explains the number: Monday and Sunday contributed almost nothing (the outage period eliminated several days entirely), while Friday August 1 saw a sharp rebound to 303 confirmed sales and $5.3M in flow — the strongest single day since mid-July. Weekend volume then collapsed back to 109 on Sunday. The market wants to trade; the outage artificially suppressed the weekly total. Dollar flow averaged $2.4M/day including all the thin days; the typical Friday-style day is closer to $4–5M.

Data notes this week: Our listing monitor was offline July 29–August 1. Data for July 28–31 was reconstructed from a later database snapshot; price coverage in those windows was 43–52% (vs the usual 80–94%), so those window values should be read as approximate rather than definitive. The historical series was also revised this week — roughly half of previously-counted removal records were reversed after Cyclops confirmed those listings had reappeared on the market. This is data quality improving, not data quality degrading: a listing that came back for sale should not count as “sold.” The revision shifts the index level about 2–3 points lower across the board but leaves the trend and direction unchanged.
